Brassy Boy out to remain perfect in Bashford Manor


Millsap Stables’s Brassy Boy will try to remain unbeaten in his young career and pick up his first stakes triumph in the process when he takes on eight challengers in the $100,000 Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) on Friday at Churchill Downs.

The bay Storm and a Half colt has won both of his starts at Churchill Downs for trainer Hal Wiggins, capturing a 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race by 2 1/2 lengths on May 29 and a five-furlong allowance race by a neck on June 11.

Two other colts enter the six-furlong race without a career blemish as Backtalk and Vito Fillito each won their only career outing.

Gold Mark Farm’s Backtalk won his career debut in a five-furlong maiden special weight race by 2 3/4 lengths on June 11 at Churchill. Tom Amoss trains the chestnut Smarty Jones colt.

Vito Filitto won his debut in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race by a neck at Churchill on June 6. The chestnut Mutakddim colt is trained by Bernie Flint fir a group that includes L. T. B. Inc., James Ryan, and Jim Flitt.

Grand Slam Andre, Westrock Gold, and Even Wilder all enter coming off victories in their previous outings.

Grand Slam Andre, a chestnut Grand Slam colt, captured a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race on June 4 at Churchill while Even Wilder, who enters with the most experience with five starts already this season, won his previous outing in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race by a head on May 31 at Arlington Park.
