Unbeaten Terrain was declared the winner of the $200,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) on Saturday at Arlington Park after a double disqualification changed the order of finish.

Jose Adan crossed the finish line first, a neck in front of Advice, and Terrain was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third.

Following a lengthy steward’s inquiry, the order of finish was changed, with Terrain moved up to first. Jose Adan was disqualified from first and placed second for veering sharply and interfering with Terrain near the finish.

Advice was disqualified from second and placed third for lugging out and interfering with Terrain in the stretch.

“My horse had a really, really horrible trip,” said jockey Jamie Theriot, Terrain’s rider. “I thought he was the best horse in the race. I think [the stewards] made the right decision.”

Malibu Maverick set the pace in the one-mile race for two-year-olds and led by three lengths through a half-mile in :46.25 and two lengths through six furlongs in 1:10.39. Terrain rallied from tenth in a field of 12 and raced in fourth in early stretch, 1 1/2 lengths behind Advice.

Terrain was taken up by Theroit after being impeded in the closing strides. Jose Adan gained command in midstretch and crossed the finish line first in 1:35.68 on Arlington’s synthetic Polytrack surface, but was disqualified.

Albert Stall Jr. trains Terrain, an Adele Dilschneider homebred who earned his third win in as many starts. The Sky Mesa gelding entered off a win in the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes in his stakes debut on August 2 at Mountaineer Park.

Terrain increased his earnings to $177,454. Bred in Kentucky, Terrain is out of stakes winner Minery, by Forty Niner.
