Pyro favored in second Derby Future Wager pool

Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Pyro was the 4-to-1 favorite in the second pool of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager when betting closed at 6 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
Pyro cemented his status as a leading contender for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) with a comfortable victory in the Louisiana Derby, and he finished as a slight favorite over 2007 champion two-year-old male War Pass in the second Future Wager pool.
War Pass, who won an allowance race on February 24 at Gulfstream Park in his only start this year, was the second betting choice at 9-to-2 followed by the mutuel field of all horses not among the individual betting interests in the pool at 6-to-1.
Visionaire’s odds tumbled from 96-to-1 at the close of betting on Friday to 19-to-1 after he won the Gotham Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Aqueduct.
The pool closed with $325,306 wagered, the smallest total for the second pool since $306,259 was wagered in 2000. The first pool of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager generated $439,379 in handle.
Multiple Grade 1 winner Country Star finished as the 5-to-1 favorite in the second pool of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, followed by Fair Grounds Oaks (G1) winner Proud Spell at 6-to-1, Pure Clan at 7-to-1, and Eight Belles and Indian Blessing at 8-to-1.
