WAR PASS

War Pass, the 2007 champion two-year-old male and Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner who is unbeaten in five career starts, is the 5-to-1 morning-line favorite for pool two of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opens a four-day run on Thursday.

War Pass opened his three-year-old season with a dominant 7 1/2-length victory in an allowance race on February 24 for trainer Nick Zito and owner Robert LaPenta. Churchill handicapper and racing analyst Mike Battaglia made the Cherokee Run colt a slight favorite over Pyro, the 6-to-1 second choice who won the Risen Star Stakes (G3) in his most recent start on February 9 at Fair Grounds.

Pool two wagering opens at noon EST on Thursday and continues through 6 p.m. on Sunday. New wagering interests in pool two are Cool Coal Man, Elysium Fields, Fierce Wind, J Be K, Nikki’sgoldensteed, Gayego, and Visionaire.

Indian Blessing, the 2007 champion two-year-old filly, is the solid 4-to-1 morning-line favorite over 6-to-1 Proud Spell in pool two of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, which also is scheduled to open on Thursday.

The three-year-old Indian Charlie filly is perfect in five career starts, including two races this year, and is the heavy favorite to win this weekend’s $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) on Saturday.

New wagering interests in pool two are Absolutely Cindy, Highest Class, Kadira, Lovely Isle, My Baby Baby, Shes All Eltish, Sky Mom, and Vaulcluse. The mutual field, which includes all other three-year-old fillies, was 15-to-1 on the morning line for pool two.

The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Future wagers are $2 minimum win bets only. The third of three pools is scheduled for April 3 through April 6.

Real-time odds on the Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future Wagers can be found at www.kentuckyderby.com.
