Homeister taken to hospital after spill at Delaware Park

Veteran jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr. was taken to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, on Friday after she tumbled headfirst to the track when her mount, She’s Jazzy, broke down in the third race at Delaware Park.
Scott Jones, the stakes coordinator at Delaware Park, said Homeister was still undergoing tests at the hospital but, according to preliminary reports, she escaped the frightening spill with no broken bones.
Homeister ranks fifth in the rider standings at Delaware Park by wins with 30 through Thursday. Since she began riding professionally in 1992, Homeister has amassed 1,944 victories, including six graded stakes wins.
She’s Jazzy, the 8-to-5 favorite in the six-furlong maiden claiming race, fractured a front limb while leading in early stretch and was euthanized.
A four-year-old Jazz Club filly trained by James Conner for owner-breeder Roger Legg, She’s Jazzy finished second in each of her first two career starts. She’s Jazzy was out of the winning Nostrum mare She’s Fab.
