Trainer Jake Radosevich saddled his 1,000th career winner on Monday when Lucky Uncle Jake won the fourth race at Beulah Park by a neck.
The five-year-old Unreal Zeal gelding opened a six-length lead through a quarter-mile in the six-furlong claiming race, led by 4 1/2 lengths through a half-mile in :48.35, and held off a fast-closing Ombra to secure the milestone win for Radosevich.
Lucky Uncle Jake made his first start for Radosevich, who purchased him during the holidays.
“He’s always loved horses, watching them, working with them,” Radosevich’s mother, Jackie Radosevich, said. “It’s his passion.”
Radosevich owns his own training facility and races horses at Thistledown, River Downs, Mountaineer Race Track, and Beulah. He has earned 14 leading training titles at Beulah and one leading trainer title at River Downs.
Radosevich has posted four stakes wins since he began training professionally in 1985. His 7,310 starters have amassed $5,964,915 in purse earnings.
