Mack buys Argentine Group 1 winner Star Plus

Posted: Thursday, January 10, 2008 12:36 PM

Earle Mack has privately purchased Star Plus, the recent winner of the Joaquin S. De Anchorena (Arg-G1) at San Isidro. The five-year-old Alpha Plus horse will join trainer Ken McPeek’s barn in the United States.

Star Plus won the 1,600-meter (7.95-furlong) Joaquin S. De Anchorena by three-quarters of a length on December 15. He finished second in three other Group 1 races in Argentina in 2007 for owner-breeder Ruben Marcelo Vivas and trainer Gregorio Vivas.

“This colt is a very exciting miler and we can’t wait for him to run in North America,” said Andrew Cohen, Mack’s racing manager. “Mr. Mack was in Argentina to see Star Plus’s [Group] 1 win … and was very impressed with his speed.”

Bred in Argentina out of the Big Play mare Nannar, Star Plus has won four of 14 career starts and earned $81,406.
