American Oaks, CashCall Mile top Hollywood stakes schedule

Posted: Friday, February 29, 2008 4:37 PM

The American Oaks Invitational presented by American Airlines (G1) and the CashCall Mile Invitational (G2), $750,000 turf races that are expected to draw an international cast of competitors, anchor an $8.5-millon stakes schedule at Hollywood Park, which opens its 60-day spring/summer meeting on April 23.

The American Oaks, a 1 1/4-mile turf race for three-year-old fillies, and the CashCall Mile, for fillies and mares three-years-old and older, will be run on July 5 as part of a card featuring five graded stakes. The graded stakes have a combined purse value of $2.2-million, a track record.

The July 5 card also will include two $300,000 races for three-year-olds and older—the Triple Bend Invitational Handicap (G1), a seven-furlong race, and the Vanity Handicap (G1), a 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares. The card also includes the $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship (G3), a six-furlong race for two-year-olds.

“Outside of Breeders’ Cup, it is the most prize money we have offered on a single day in track history,” Hollywood Vice President of Racing Martin Panza said. “We’ve already had considerable interest from Australia and we expect continued interest from Europe and Japan as well as nationwide.”

Hollywood’s 70th anniversary meeting features 55 stakes races, seven of which are Grade 1 events. Eleven Grade 2 and eleven Grade 3 races will also be run.

Live racing at the Inglewood, California, track will continue through July 13.
