Jockey Joe Crispin cracked his hip after being thrown from his mount, Dynamite Ollie, during the third race on Monday at Portland Meadows.
Crispin, who ranks third at the Portland, Oregon, track with 35 victories, is expected to miss between six to eight weeks.
“The doctors told him last night he’d be out probably eight weeks,” Crispin’s agent, Mike Delnick, said. “They told him when he hurt his wrist it would be four months and he was back riding in eight weeks. He thinks he’ll be ready this time next month.”
Dynamite Ollie clipped heels and fell near the quarter pole when Foreseti’s Question veered in and impeded the five-year-old Oka Revolt gelding’s progress. Dynamite Ollie suffered a leg injury and was euthanized.
Trained by Pat Jarvis for owner Natalie Ruthven, Dynamite Ollie won one of 33 career starts and earned $12,327. Bred by Rob Maybin and Sheena Kaur in British Columbia, Dynamite Ollie was making his second start in the United States after making his previous 31 starts at Hastings Race Course.
