Big Brown favored in final Derby Future Wager pool

The final Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool closed at 6 p.m. EDT on Sunday with undefeated Big Brown favored at 3-to-1. The Boundary colt cemented a spot in the field for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) with a convincing win in the Florida Derby (G1) on March 29.
Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Pyro was the 5-to-1 second choice with Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Colonel John checking in at 6-to-1.
Churchill Downs reported $1,056,520 in combined total handle for the three Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools, the smallest total since $676,233 was wagered in the inaugural year of the wager. Handle for the final pool was $291,835, which was the least amount wagered in the third pool since 2003.
Eight Belles, winner of the Fantasy (G2) and Honeybee (G3) Stakes at Oaklawn Park, was the 5-to-1 favorite in the final pool of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. Grade 2 winner Proud Spell was the second choice at 6-to-1, followed by Country Star (7-to-1), Pure Clan (8-to-1), and Bsharpsonata (8-to-1).
