Undefeated five-year-old Peppers Pride will run in an allowance race for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares at Zia Park in Hobbs, New Mexico, on Saturday as she attempts to set a modern North American record with 17 consecutive wins.

Joe Allen’s Desert God mare has won each of her first 16 starts and currently shares the record with 1948 Triple Crown winner Citation, two-time Horse of the Year Cigar, Grade 1 winner Mister Frisky, and  Hallowed Dreams.

Peppers Pride has not raced since winning the Russell and Hellen Foutz Distaff Handicap on April 26 at Sunland Park.

Peppers Pride was originally supposed to run in the Lincoln Handicap on July 27 at Ruidoso Downs but a major storm postponed the race.

The race was rescheduled for August 31 but trainer Joel Marr scratched Peppers Pride due to wet track conditions. Peppers Pride has run only on tracks rated as fast throughout her career.
