Jockey Martin Pedroza made opening day at Fairplex Park extra special as he rode seven winners on the 13-race Friday card and notched his 3,000th career victory.
Pedroza, 43, reached the milestone win in the second race as Airplane Attendant launched a rally in early stretch and wore down Two too Many for a neck victory in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race.
The native of Panama City, Panama, went on to win six of the next 11 races. He concluded his night by winning the $63,700 Jim Kostoff Stakes aboard Trevor’s Clever.
The West Coast-based Pedroza has won four Grade 1 stakes races in his 26-year career, his most recent coming in the 2006 Santa Maria Handicap (G1) aboard Star Parade (Arg).
Pedroza is Fairplex Park’s all-time leading rider and won the 2007 title with 35 winners.
