California-based multiple Grade 1 winner Street Boss will join his sire and stand at Darley in Lexington at the conclusion of his racing career.
No stud fee was announced for the Street Cry (Ire) colt out of stakes-placed winner Blushing Ogygian, by Ogygian. Street Cry stood the 2008 breeding season for $100,000.
Street Boss has earned six wins from seven starts this season for trainer Bruce Headley, who co-owns the chestnut colt with Marsha Naify and Simon Yu. Street Boss will continue to race in Headley’s, Naify’s, and Yu’s colors through an expected start in the Sentient Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.
“Street Boss is a multiple record-breaking, multiple Grade 1-winning son of the most exciting young stallion in America,” said Charlie Boden, the head of nominations at Darley America. “We’re obviously partial to Street Cry, and Street Boss truly shows the diversity of his sire’s progeny. What’s more, he’s a gorgeous looking horse. Mr. Headley’s done a great job with him and we’re very excited that Street Boss will join the roster at Darley.”
A career earner of $581,800, Street Boss is unbeaten in his previous five starts. The four-year-old colt set a track record on Del Mar’s Polytrack surface by running six furlongs in 1:08.67 while winning the Bing Crosby Handicap (G1) in his previous start on July 27.
Street Boss won the Triple Bend Invitational Handicap (G1) on July 5 at Hollywood Park prior to winning the Bing Crosby. The chestnut colt set a track record on Hollywood’s Cushion Track surface, covering six furlongs in 1:07.55 during a victory in the Los Angeles Handicap (G3) on May 10.
