Arroyo recovering after Monday spill

Jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. was taken to North Shore University Hospital on Monday after falling from his mount when he lost his irons in the fifth race at Belmont Park.

Arroyo’s agent, Michael Monroe, said the rider reported pain in his right foot but X-rays revealed no broken bones.

“He’ll be icing that foot and he should be back in action real soon,” Monroe said. “He’ll probably take off his mounts on Thursday as a precaution, but hopefully he’ll be back in action by Friday.”

Arroyo lost his irons on Triste Doble Q shortly after completing two furlongs and fell near the quarter-pole.
