Grade 2 winner Gayego set the pace and pulled away in the stretch of the fourth race at Hollywood Park on Sunday to prevail in a track-record time of 1:13.37 for 6½ furlongs on the synthetic Cushion Track surface.

The previous record of 1:13.79 was set by Banner Lodge on December 16, 2007.

Gayego earned his first win since taking the Arkansas Derby (G2) on April 12 at Oaklawn Park. He followed his Arkansas Derby win with unplaced finishes in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1).

Multiple Grade 3 winner El Gato Malo finished fourth on Sunday in the $66,396 allowance/optional claiming race.

Gayego is one of five winners from as many starters out of stakes winner Devils Lake, by Lost Code. Multiple Grade 2 winner Diamond Duo is a notable family member.
