Honor in War, the winner of the 2003 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (G1), has been retired from racing.
A career earner of $1,264,705, nine-year-old Honor in War won the 1 1/8-mile Turf Classic at Churchill Downs for trainer Paul McGee and owner 3rd Turn Stables. The Lord At War (Arg) horse out of Catumbella, by Diesis (GB), also won the 2003 Arlington Handicap (G3) and concluded his racing career with 11 wins in 47 starts.
Honor in War was shipped to Australia following a fourth-place finish in the 2006 Turfway Park Fall Championship Stakes (G3). Racing for a partnership that included 3rd Turn Stables and trained by Chris Waller, the chestnut horse halted an 11-race winless stretch after being declared the winner of the Villiers Stakes (Aus-G2) on January 5 at Randwick.
Honor in War crossed the finish line second by a nose in the Villiers but was moved up to first after Australian champion sprinter Takeover Target was disqualified for drifting out in the stretch.
Stud plans have not been announced for Honor in War, who was bred in Kentucky by Mill Ridge Farm Ltd. and W Lazy T Ltd.
