El Roblar back on track in Inglewood Handicap
by Ron Parker
Stonestreet Stable’s El Roblar showed no signs of the injuries that have plagued his career as he stormed home first on Saturday in the $109,500 Inglewood Handicap (G3) at Hollywood Park.
The six-year-old War Chant horse broke alertly and jockey Victor Espinoza settled him into a stalking position as Ghosttrapper charged to the front in the 1 1/16-mile turf contest and steadily opened up on the field. Ghosttrapper increased his lead to ten lengths on the backstretch.
Ghosttrapper had nothing left as the field closed the gap nearing the stretch turn, with El Roblar getting the lead in the stretch and repulsing the challenge of Heroi Do Bafra (Brz) by a half-length. Uffizi finished third as El Roblar stopped the timer in 1:40.35 on the firm turf.
Winner of the Ack Ack Handicap (G3) on Hollywood Park’s synthetic track on June 9, El Roblar returned to the races on April 5, finishing third in the Potrero Grande Handicap (G2) at Santa Anita Park prior to the Inglewood.
Out of the Roanoke mare Screamer, El Roblar has won six of 14 career starts and increased his earnings to $389,646.
