Carolyn’s Cat set a controlled pace from the inside and drew clear approaching the finish to notch a 3 3/4-length win in the $106,000 Cicada Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Aqueduct.
The 1.70-to-1 favorite in a field of five three-year-old fillies, Carolyn’s Cat led Dill Or No Dill by a head through a half-mile in :45.09. Increasing her advantage to two lengths in early stretch, the Forestry filly easily earned her second consecutive stakes win.
Carolyn’s Cat completed the six-furlong race in 1:10.16 on a track rated as fast under jockey Alan Garcia.
Multiple stakes winner Dill Or No Dill finished third, 4 1/4 lengths behind Ready for Fortune. Multiple stakes winner Throbbin' Heart trailed throughout the race after being bumped at the start by Carolyn's Cat and nearly unseating jockey Stewart Elliott.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin for William K. Warren Jr. and Suzanne Warren, Carolyn’s Cat entered off a five-length win over Dill Or No Dill in the T Storm Stakes on January 31 at Aqueduct. Carolyn’s Cat opened her season with a runner-up finish to Dill Or No Dill in the Ruthless Stakes on January 6 at the Jamaica, New York, track.
Carolyn’s Cat earned her third win in six starts and increased her earnings to $154,615. Bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Farm, Carolyn’s Cat is out of Grade 3 winner People’s Princess, by Meadowlake.
