Grade 2 winner Oprah Winney has been retired to Hidden Brook Farm in Paris, Kentucky, and will be bred to Horse of the Year Ghostzapper.

Plans call for the five-year-old Royal Academy mare to be offered in the Hidden Brook Farm consignment at one of the November breeding stock sales.

“She was nothing short of brilliant on the racetrack” said Chris Brothers, director of bloodstock and sales for Hidden Brook. “She had world class speed and the heart of a lion. With her pedigree, race-record, and physical qualities, she certainly has all of the credentials breeders desire.”

Oprah Winney was bred in New York by Gatsas Thoroughbreds and is out of the Woodman mare Mere Presence. Owned by the partnership of Sandford Goldfarb, Michael Dubb, and Bunch of Characters Stable, she won seven of 18 starts—finishing in the top three 15 times—and earned $593,989.

Her most prestigious victory came in the 2007 Barbara Fritchie Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2) at Laurel Park for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.
