Trinity Magic’s success to benefit Ocala church

The owners of unbeaten two-year-old multiple stakes winner Trinity Magic have agreed to donate part of the colt’s purse earnings to Ocala-based Blessed Trinity Church if he wins the $750,000 Boyd Gaming’s Delta Jackpot Stakes (G3) on Friday at Delta Downs.

Jim and Treasa Donnan and Terry and Pam Bailey will continue a tradition started by consignors Niall Brennan, Ciaran Dunne, Leprechaun Racing, Scanlon Training Center, and Eddie Woods and donate $25,000 to Blessed Trinity if the colt wins his graded stakes debut. Blessed Trinity also benefited financially when Jim Donnan purchased the colt for $50,000 at the 2008 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of two-year-olds in training.

If Trinity Magic is pointed toward the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1), the owners will donate $25,000 to Blessed Trinity each time the colt wins a prep race.

“Everyone who hears the story about this horse being purchased as a donation for the Blessed Trinity Church finds it inspiring,” Jim Donnan said. “My brother-in-law Terry just became a one-third partner in our horse, and he suggested we continue the effort to help the church. We are all very excited about Trinity Magic, and very impressed with the way the consignors banded together to help the church.”

Steve Asmussen trains Trinity Magic, a career earner of $158,040 who has won all three of his starts. The chestnut colt made his two previous starts at Belmont Park, and won the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes on September 21 prior to capturing the Sleepy Hollow Stakes on October 18.
