Peppers Pride equals North American record for wins

Multiple stakes winner Peppers Pride equaled a modern North American record by earning her 16th consecutive win on Saturday in the $75,000 Russell and Hellen Foutz Distaff Handicap at SunRay Park.

The 2-to-5 favorite in a field of eight fillies and mares, Peppers Pride posted a two-length win to equal the North American record of 16 straight wins previously shared by Cigar, Citation, Hallowed Dreams, and Mister Frisky.

Peppers Pride rallied from sixth in the Foutz Distaff, opened a half-length lead in early stretch, and won the 6 ½-furlong race in 1:17.01 on a track rated as fast.

A Joe Allen homebred trained by Joel Marr, unbeaten Peppers Pride has compiled $861,665 in earnings while racing exclusively in New Mexico. The Desert God mare out of Lady Pepper, by Chili Pepper, has earned 12 wins in stakes races.
