Horse of the Year Curlin arrived at Keeneland Race Course on Sunday morning shortly after 10 a.m. EDT from Belmont Park.
The four-year-old Smart Strike colt arrived at Belmont on April 2 with Toby Sheets, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen, after clearing quarantine in Dubai. Curlin had been in Dubai since mid-February and wrapped up his stay in the Middle East with a 7 3/4-length romp in the $6-million Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) on March 29.
In his first season of racing last year, Curlin won the Preakness (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) Stakes prior to wrapping up his championship season with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (G1). He has eight wins in 11 career starts and has earned $8,807,800.
Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables is the majority owner of Curlin, who will remain with Asmussen’s string at Keeneland until plans are made for his next start.
