BUZZARDS BAY

Gary Broad’s Grade 1 winner Buzzards Bay will try for his second graded stakes victory of the season as he takes on nine challengers in the $150,000 All American Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

The five-year-old Marco Bay horse, winner of the 2005 Santa Anita Derby (G1), won the Californian Stakes (G2) on June 2 at Hollywood Park for trainer Ron Ellis. Buzzards Bay enters off a 1 3/4-length victory over Siren Lure in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race on October 19 during the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park.

Buzzards Bay won two of four starts last year, including victories in the All American and Oaklawn (G2) Handicaps.

Graded stakes winners Wanna Runner and McCann’s Mojave also have been entered in the 1 1/8-mile race for three-year-olds and older—the first graded event on Golden Gate’s new Tapeta Footings synthetic surface.

Mike Pegram’s Wanna Runner has won one of six starts this season, capturing the Windy Sands Handicap on September 3 at Del Mar for trainer Bob Baffert. The four-year-old El Corredor gelding won last year’s Walmac Lone Star Derby (G3) and enters off a last-place finish in the Goodwood Stakes (G1) on September 29 at Santa Anita.

McCann’s Mojave opened the year with a victory in the Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The seven-year-old Memo (Chi) horse is unplaced in four subsequent starts.

McCann’s Mojave, winner of the ’04 Potrero Grande Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2), enters off a fourth-place finish in the Morvich Handicap (G3) on October 27 at Santa Anita.

Also entered is Amazin Blue, a three-year-old Marquetry colt who has won three of nine starts this season for trainer Terry Jordan, including the Alberta Derby on June 16 at Stampede Park.
