Virginia Derby to be broadcast on CBS

The $1-million Virginia Derby (G2) at Colonial Downs will be broadcast on national television for the first time on CBS on July 21.

The 10th running of the 1 1/4-mile race will be broadcast live from the New Kent, Virginia, track beginning at 5 p.m. EDT. Post time for the Virginia Derby is 5:44 p.m.

"We are bringing the wonderful summer experience of Virginia Thoroughbred turf racing to the national audience for the first time," Colonial owner Jeff Jacobs said.

Colonial’s Thoroughbred meet opens Friday and runs through August 7. Regular post time is 1 p.m. EDT on Saturdays and Sundays and 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
