DREAMING OF ANNA

Champion Dreaming of Anna set an uncontested pace along the inside en route to a half-length win in the $210,000 Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs on Saturday.

Sent off as the 3.20-to-1 third choice in the 12-horse field, the Rahy filly burst out of the gate, seized the lead, and led at every point of call under jockey E.T. Baird. Dreaming of Anna was challenged by New Edition on the outside in the stretch but dug in tenaciously to hold off that foe.

Dreaming of Anna completed 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in 1:47.38.

New Edition finished well for second, followed by Christmas Kid, who was another two lengths back.

Trained by Wayne Catalano, Dreaming of Anna entered off a 1 1/4-length victory in the Double Delta Stakes on June 2 at Arlington Park. Prior to that, she finished sixth in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 4 at Churchill Downs.

Dreaming of Anna was undefeated in four starts as a juvenile, capping the season with a win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Churchill en route to the Eclipse Award as champion two-year-old filly.

A Frank Calabrese homebred, Dreaming of Anna is a full sister to multiple Grade 2-placed stakes winner Lewis Michael. She is out of Grade 3-placed multiple stakes winner Justenuffheart, by Broad Brush.

Dreaming of Anna improved to six wins in nine career starts and increased her earnings to $1,446,572.
