Invasor turns in bullet work at Belmont for McLaughlin, Jazil also breezes

Posted: Saturday, January 20, 2007 8:51 PM

Breeders Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (G1) winner Invasor (Arg) breezed five furlongs on Saturday in 1:01.24 on the training track at Belmont Park for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin.

The move was the fastest of 18 timed works at that distance on the Belmont training track.

The five-year-old Candy Stripes horse, a leading candidate for both Horse of the Year and champion older horse honors at the Eclipse Awards on January 22, is expected to make his next start in the Donn Handicap (G1) on February 3 at Gulfstream Park.

Owned by Shadwell Stable, a finalist for the Eclipse Award for outstanding owner, Invasor is undefeated in four starts in North America with victories in the  Suburban (G1), Pimlico Special (G1), and Whitney (G1) Handicaps in addition to the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Jazil also breezed for McLaughlin, a finalist for the Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer. Jazil drilled four furlongs in :48.42 over the Belmont training track. The fourth-fastest of 40 timed works at the distance.

The Seeking the Gold colt finished second in an allowance race at Aqueduct on January 9 in his first start since winning the 1 1/2-mile Belmont on June 10. Jazil was sidelined with a bruised hind cannon bone.
