Hystericalady eyeing Beldame

Hystericalady, the dominant winner of the Molly Pitcher Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2) on August 25 at Monmouth Park, may ship East again for the Beldame Stakes (G1) on September 30 at Belmont Park, trainer and co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer said.

At this point, Hollendorfer would prefer the Beldame over the Lady’s Secret Stakes (G1), which will be contested over Cushion Track for the first time on October 7 at Santa Anita Park.

Hystericalady finished second and third, respectively, in the Milady Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2) and Vanity Invitational Handicap (G1) on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.

“I’d rather not go [to the Lady’s Secret] since it’s a synthetic surface,” Hollendorfer said.

Hystericalady won the Humana Distaff (G1) in May at seven furlongs, but the Molly Pitcher only strengthened Hollendorfer’s plan to head toward the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Monmouth on October 27 rather than the new Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on October 26.

“We’re trying to keep her going long the whole year. Even though she was beaten twice before the Molly Pitcher, we stuck with that plan and it’s now back on a successful track,” he said.

Hystericalady was scheduled to arrive back at Hollendorfer’s California base on Wednesday afternoon. She has won seven of 13 career starts and earned $656,503 for owners Rancho San Miguel, Hollendorfer, and George Todaro.
