Multiple Grade 3 winner Marietta gained command approaching the stretch after being angled out by jockey Mark Guidry and drew clear near the finish in a 1 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Arlington Oaks (G3) on Saturday at Arlington Park.

The Machiavellian filly raced in sixth in a field of seven three-year-old fillies through a half-mile in :49.54, 5 1/2 lengths off the pace. Moving up on the outside, Marietta opened a half-length lead in early stretch and gamely earned her second straight graded stakes victory.

Marietta, a Darley homebred trained by Eoin Harty, earned her first career stakes win in the Iowa Oaks (G3) in her previous start on June 29 at Prairie Meadows Racetrack.

Marquise maintained a 1 1/2-length lead against 11-to-10 favorite Mini Sermon in the opening half-mile of the Arlington Oaks. Marietta closed within two lengths of the lead near the three-eighths pole, seized command with a determined move on the turn, and won the 1 1/8-mile race in 1:49.39 on Polytrack surface.

Multiple Grade 3-placed winner Humble Janet rallied from last to finish second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Grade 3-placed winner Marquee Delivery.

Marietta made two consecutive starts on all weather surfaces prior to winning the Iowa Oaks on the main track. The dark bay or brown filly won a 1 1/8-mile maiden special weight race on April 22 at Keeneland Race Course and finished third in the Selene Stakes (Can-G3) in her stakes debut on May 20 at Woodbine.

Kentucky-bred Marietta earned her third win in eight starts over two seasons and increased her earnings to $245,523. The filly is out of Minister Wife, by Deputy Minister.
