Dogwood Stable has retired Acorn Stakes (G1) winner Cotton Blossom due to injuries she sustained in the Darley Test Stakes (G1) on August 4 at Saratoga Race Course.

The three-year-old Broken Vow filly out of For Dixie, by Dixieland Band, will be offered in the Fasig-Tipton November selected mixed sale on November 4 through consignor Three Chimneys Farm.

“Cotton Blossom was shipped to Kentucky after she exhibited lameness following the [Test], and ultrasounds there have confirmed that there is significant damage in the sesamoidian ligaments, along with bone chips in the ankle,” Dogwood President Cot Campbell said. “Her future in racing would be very bleak, and it is clearly indicated that she be retired.”

Cotton Blossom won the Acorn by one length on June 9 at Belmont Park over eventual Test winner Dream Rush. She also won the 2006 Schuylerville Stakes (G3) and ’07 Florida Oaks and finished second in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) and third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Dogwood purchased Cotton Blossom for $210,000 from consignor Warrendale Sales, agent, in the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July selected yearling sale.

Bred by J. D. Squires, Cotton Blossom won four of 11 career starts and earned $724,987.
