John Battaglia Memorial Stakes winner Catman Running, Private Terms Stakes winner Etude, and eight other three-year-olds were made eligible for the Triple Crown in the late nomination period that closed on March 31.

At a fee of $6,000 each, the late additions pushed the total number of Triple Crown nominations to a record 460 horses. The previous mark was 454 in 2003. Triple Crown Productions realized $330,000 in revenue from this year’s nominations.

Catman Running won the John Battaglia Memorial on March 3 at Turfway Park, defeating Joe Got Even who went on to finish third to Hard Spun in the Lane’s End Stakes (G2) on March 24 at Turfway. Trained by Eric Reed for owner Joe Harris, Catman Running is slated for the Illinois Derby (G2) on Saturday at Hawthorne Race Course.
