Grade 2 winner Awesome Gem turned in a strong workout on Saturday at Hollywood Park in his final tuneup for an expected start in Breeders’ Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (G1) on October 27 at Monmouth Park.

The four-year-old Awesome Again gelding covered six furlongs in 1:12.80 handily on the all-weather Cushion Track surface at Hollywood. The move tied for the fastest of eight-timed workouts at the distance.

He won the San Fernando Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2) on January 13 at Santa Anita Park and subsequently finished second at Del Mar in both the San Diego Handicap (G2) on July 21 and Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) on August 19.

Awesome Gem enters off a runner-up finish to Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Tiago in the Goodwood Stakes (G1) on September 29 at Santa Anita.

Awesome Gem has four wins in 14 career starts with purse earnings of $631,360.
