Sloppy conditions force Aqueduct to cancel live racing after third race

Aqueduct cancelled live racing following the third race on the card Wednesday due to sloppy track conditions caused by a snow storm earlier in the day.

The cancellation was the fourth of the year at the Jamaica, New York, oval. The New York Racing Association's decision was made with consideration to the beginning of the Pick 6, which was scheduled to begin with the fourth race and featured a carryover of $205,721.

 "NYRA management and jockeys made a joint decision," said New York Racing Association Senior Vice President Bill Nader. "The jockeys had high expectations that they would not be able to get through the card. With the carryover of more than $200,000, we thought it was in everyone's best interest to stop at this point."

An announcement was made shortly before 2:30 EDT and patrons were given until 3 p.m. to collect a three-part rain check for free admission, parking, and program. Live racing will resume on Thursday with a first post time of 1 p.m.
