Kentucky Derby and Oaks future pool three opens Thursday

Brother Derek, expected to be the heavy favorite in Saturday's Santa Anita Derby (G1), has been tabbed as the 7-to-2 morning-line choice in the Kentucky Derby (G1) Future Wager pool three, which opens at noon EDT Thursday and closes at 6 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

Churchill Downs handicapper Mike Battaglia has installed Florida Derby (G1) winner Barbaro as the 5-to-1 second choice, with the field installed as the third choice at 6-to-1. Rebel Stakes (G3) winner Lawyer Ron was installed at 12-to-1.

Besides the Santa Anita Derby, this weekend's Kentucky Derby prep races also include the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct and the Illinois Derby (G2) at Hawthorne Race Course.

The new wagering interests in pool three are A. P. Warrior, Deputy Glitters, Discreet Cat, Like Now, Sacred Light, Sharp Humor, Sunriver, and With a City. Dropped since pool two were Barbican, Corinthian, Flashy Bull, Great Point, Itsallboutthechase, Latent Heat, Noonmark, and Really Indian.

In the Kentucky Oaks (G1) future wager, Santa Anita Oaks (G1) winner Balance has been chosen as the 7-to-2 morning-line favorite, followed by the field at 5-to-1. Balance is the expected favorite in the Ashland Stakes (G1), to be run on Saturday at Keeneland Race Course.

The new wagering interests in the Kentucky Oaks pool three are Brownie Points, Bushfire, Ermine, Miraculous Miss, Quiet Kim, Ready to Please, Sweet Fourty, Teammate, and Top Notch Lady. Dropped from pool two were Baghdaria, Better Now, Folklore, Joint Effort, Misty Rosette, Original Spin, Private World, Sabatini, and Sierra Sweetie.
