Jockey Mawing scores 1,000th career victory

Leslie Mawing registered his 1,000th career win when guiding Wata Sunrise to victory in Friday's ninth race at Turf Paradise.

"So this is what it feels like," said Mawing, a 30-year-old South African native. "Now I'll have to gun for the next thousand."

Mawing, who rode his first winner at Boise in Idaho in 1994, is ranked in the top ten in the local jockey standings.
