Jockey Mata scores 2,000th career win at Great Lakes Downs

Jockey Federico Mata recorded his 2,000th career victory in the fourth race at Great Lakes Downs on Tuesday night when he guided three-year-old gelding Realbean to a three-length win.

Under Mata, Realbean surged clear early in the six-furlong claiming race and led the field unchallenged through a half-mile in :46.96. Mata kept his mount to task through the stretch as the duo cruised to the milestone victory.

Mata moved within one win of the mark in the third race on the card by riding Total Expressions to a 2 3/4-length victory.

A professional jockey in North America since 1988, Mata has started 14,070 times. He has amassed $17,571,839 in career earnings.

Mata is third in the rider standings at Great Lakes Downs through Tuesday, with 86 wins from 544 mounts and has earnings of $876,440.
