Rain forces cancellation of Monday card at Kentucky Downs

Kentucky Downs canceled live racing on Monday due to unsafe track conditions created by rain.

Racing is expected to resume on Tuesday, the final day of a seven-day live meet at the Franklin, Kentucky, track. The canceled card will not be made up. All purse money will revert back to the horsemen purse account.

"A steady drizzle started Sunday night and was off and on all night," said Ryan Driscoll, the track's general manager. "I thought we had a chance of saving the card, but the rain started back up when I was walking the track. We had some spots that were softer than others at the bottom of the hill and around the turn. Safety is the first priority for everyone."

A decision about Tuesday's card will be made after Driscoll and horsemen representatives walk the track at 6 a.m. CDT.
