Bravo ties Monmouth track record with six wins

Jockey Joe Bravo tied a track record he shares with three others by riding six winners on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Bravo previously accomplished the feat at the Oceanport, New Jersey, track on August 31, 1994, and May 18, 2002. Walter Blum, Chris Antley, and Julie Krone also have ridden six winners on a single card at the track.

"I just feel blessed,'' said Bravo, Monmouth's ten-time leading rider. "It just makes you feel really good to have all the trainers and owners that are behind me and let me get on their horses. This is just awesome.''

Bravo, 34, earned four consecutive wins in the third through sixth races. He won the $60,000 Blue Sparkler Stakes aboard Comacina then won the final race on a gelding appropriately named Excellent Job.

Comacina earned her stakes victory by a half-length over Traci Girl.

"She showed me a lot of heart out there,'' Bravo said. "Every time I asked her for more she just kept giving it to me.''

Through Saturday, Bravo led the Monmouth jockey standings with 93 wins. Stewart Elliott was second with 81 victories.
