Local hero takes Hong Kong international race

Industrialist, who has improved practically with every start since arriving in Hong Kong last November, won a battle of head bobs with Jim and Tonic (Fr) and Housemaster to triumph in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup on Sunday at Sha Tin racecourse. His time was 2:02.10 for 1 ¼ miles over good-to-firm turf. Thesaurus, the only American representative in the race, finished tenth.

A four-year-old Rudimentary gelding, Industrialist has earned a check in all ten of his Hong Kong starts, winning the Hong Kong Classic Trial and Hong Kong Gold Cup and running fourth in the Hong Kong Derby. The gelding, who ran under the name Mensa in England, was 2-for-10 and stakes-placed there before transferring to Hong Kong.
