Santa Anita to host its own Sunshine Millions day

Santa Anita Park, the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association (CTBA), and the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) will host a newly structured $1-million Sunshine Millions day program on January 28.

Gulfstream Park announced last week that it will host the Florida Sunshine Millions day on January 28, which will feature six stakes worth $1.3-million in purses for Florida-breds.

Santa Anita’s Sunshine Millions day will feature five stakes, including three stakes exclusively for California-breds. The day will also feature the $300,000 Santa Monica Stakes (G1) for older fillies and mares and $100,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) for three-year-old fillies.

“Sunshine Millions is one of our biggest day of the year in California and, with the cooperation of the CTBA and TOC, we’re looking forward to building upon that success,” Santa Anita President George Haines said. “The Santa Monica historically brings together many of the country’s best fillies and mares. Adding it to the state-bred races will enable us to offer our fans excellent racing with good betting value and our horsemen over a million dollars in purse money.”
