Billionaire investor Buffett makes unlikely stop at the track

Warren Buffett, the savvy investor widely recognized as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, made a visit to Horsemen’s Park on the final day of that track’s four-day meeting in his native Nebraska on Sunday.

Buffett was spotted looking “like any other fan at the track … and seemed to be having a good time,” the Omaha World Herald reported.

Buffett, who was introduced to racing at a young age by an uncle or a friend’s mother at Ak-Sar-Ben, said he got the idea to stop at Horsemen’s Park because “someone who works for me was coming out and I thought I'd come, too. It's been a long time since I've been to the races, but I'm loving it here today.”

Horsemen's Park General Manager Greg Hosch invited Buffett to the track’s air-conditioned clubhouse to escape the 90-degree heat, and the 80-year-old investor accommodated fans for photos or autographs.

“He was just at the White House talking to the President a few days ago and today he's out here,” Hosch said. “I ran down and introduced myself and then pretty much commandeered him. He's very accommodating. I don't think he turned anyone away.”

Buffett later helped present the trophy to the winner of the featured $51,500 Omaha Stakes, won by the five-year-old Storm Cat horse Schramsberg.
