Allen, Shatz awarded Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarships

Posted: Friday, September 03, 2010 6:14 PM

David Allen and Heather Shatz, animal science majors in the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program (RTIP), have been awarded the Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarships for the 2010-‘11 academic year.

Allen, who also was awarded a Goodman Scholarship last year, is a senior from Detroit, Michigan. Shatz is a junior from Benson, Arizona.

“Heather and David epitomize the spirit of the Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship and are most deserving recipients,” said Matt Iuliano, executive director of the Jockey Club. “We are glad to reward them for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to their future contributions to the Thoroughbred industry.”

The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship was created in 2007 and awarded annually to RTIP students based on their academic achievement, proposed career path in the Thoroughbred racing industry, and previous industry involvement. Goodman is a longtime member of the Jockey Club and one of the three founders of the Race Track Industry Program.

“David interned at Monmouth Park this summer,” said RTIP director Doug Reed, “and has been a wonderful student with plans to graduate this year while Heather returns this year for her second year and has immersed herself in everything the program has to offer.”
