Oak Tree meet at Hollywood features seven Grade 1 races

Posted: Thursday, September 02, 2010 3:17 PM

Hollywood Park will play host to the Oak Tree meeting for the first time beginning on September 30 and continuing through October 31.

The main event for the meet's first card, which will take place at night, will be the $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Handicap (G3) for fillies and mares on the turf.

Due to a different course configuration, the Maddy is one of three grass stakes during the Oak Tree meeting that will have a change in distance. The others are the Morvich Handicap (G3) on October 11 and the California Cup Distaff Handicap on October 30.

All three races will be at six furlongs instead of about 6½ furlongs when they were conducted on Santa Anita Park’s downhill turf course.

The first weekend of the meeting will feature six Grade 1 race.

What probably will be most anticipated of those races is the final Southern California start on the season for unbeaten Zenyatta. The six-year-old Street Cry (Ire) mare, who has been stabled at the track throughout her career, is expected to seek her 19th consecutive victory in a race that she already has won twice.

Scheduled to be called the $250,000 Zenyatta Stakes (G1) for the first time in 2010, the 1 1/16-mile race has been restored to its original name—the Lady’s Secret Stakes.
