Trainer Woodard to begin 30-day suspension

Joe Woodard, the second-leading trainer at Turfway Park this winter, will begin a 30-day suspension on Monday for a positive test for the prohibited substance xylazine in the eighth race on December 29 at the Florence, Kentucky, track.

Woodard waived his right to a formal hearing.

Stewards suspended Woodard and disqualified Nola Place and placed her last in the $8,000 claiming race.

Xylazine, a veterinary sedative, is a Class 3 drug that falls under the Class B penalty classification.

Through Wednesday, Woodard had 16 wins in the Turfway meet, one fewer than leading trainer Mike Maker.
