Burn replaces Cunningham at Betfair US

Gerard Cunningham, who helped manage the transition after Betfair purchased Television Games Network early last year, will leave the company.

In a statement released on Thursday, Betfair said Cunningham would pursue other opportunities and that Stephen Burn would take over Betfair US leadership, including TVG.

“We have decided that the strategy for the U.S. is to enhance our horse racing offerings and to support our global product development initiatives and therefore, at this point, Betfair wants the U.S. horse racing and engineering teams to integrate more closely with [United Kingdom] operations,” the company statement said. “Given these changes, Gerard decided to leave the company to pursue alternative opportunities.”

Burn previously served as Betfair’s director of horse racing. In that position he helped work out an agreement to pay Breeders’ Cup Ltd. a percentage of revenue generated from exchange wagering handle on the 2009 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Betfair, a U.K.-based company best known for its successful exchange wagering platform for betting horse racing and other sporting events, purchased TVG for $50-million in January 2009. TVG is a racing channel and account wagering provider.
