The Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission agreed to investigate owner Michael Gill after a rash of breakdowns involving his horses at Penn National Race Course, according to Central Pennsylvania newspaper The Patriot-News.
Penn National lifted the ban on entries of Gill’s horses on Friday. Horses owned by Gill are entered in four races on Wednesday at Penn National, but the jockeys told the Patriot-News on Friday that they will refuse to ride in races in which Gill has entered horses.
Gill told the Patriot-News on Friday that he has had no problems finding jockeys to ride his horses.
“We got our jocks on them because they know what this is,” he said.
Gill won the 2005 Eclipse Award as outstanding owner and was the nation’s leading owner in 2009 in both wins and purse earnings.
