K. K. and Vilasini Jayaraman have fired Tim Ice as their primary trainer, and they will transfer champion three-year-old male Summer Bird to another barn.

K. K. Jayaraman cited a lack of communication between him and Ice, according to Daily Racing Form. Jayaraman was not available for additional comment on Tuesday morning. He told the Form that he will send Summer Bird to the barn of trainer Tim Ritchey.

Summer Bird is recovering from a condylar fracture that he sustained while training for the Japan Cup Dirt (Jpn-G1).

The Jayaramans nominated five horses for the Triple Crown that were in Ice’s care, including an unraced Jump Start half brother to Summer Bird named Indy Squall.

K. K. Jayaraman said last year that he had used 89 different trainers since the couple entered the business in the early 1980s. K. K. Jayaraman trained himself for a short period. John Sadler trained Summer Bird as a two-year-old until the Jayaramans moved all their horses out of Southern California in late 2008.

The Jayaramans have been Ice’s main client since he went out on his own in spring 2008. He told the Form he is now down to six horses.
