A group of equine veterinarians have formed the Equine Health and Welfare Alliance, the first organization based in the United States dedicated solely to improving the health and welfare of horses.
The Equine Health and Welfare Alliance will also advocate for horses via financial, professional, legislative, and research support.
“As the horse has played such a special role in our history, we seek to protect the dignity of all horses,” said EHWA President Frank Dwayne Marcum, D.V.M. “The EHWA is positioned to provide expertise and coordinate other organizations in developing strategic plans for improving standards of care, regulatory oversight, and current policies pertaining to the treatment of the equine.”
In addition to Dr. Marcum, other founding EHWA members include Doug Byers, D.V.M., Norm Umphenhour, D.V.M., Mike Cavey, D.V.M, and Gary Lavin, D.V.M.
