Small shareholder leaves Aqueduct group

According to several New York newspapers, a controversial person involved with the franchise selected to operate the Aqueduct casino will leave the group.

Darryl Greene, who had a 0.6% share in Aqueduct Entertainment Group, released a statement Monday announcing his intentions to leave the group.

The New York Daily News reports that AEG Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Levine said Greene’s small share will be assumed by the group’s other investors.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) placed conditions on Gov. David Paterson’s selection of AEG to operate Aqueduct casino gambling. One of those conditions would be for the group to not include shareholders with felonies in the last 15 years.

In 1999, Greene pleaded guilty to a charge of misuse of $500,000 of public funds, according to the Daily News and other outlets. Greene’s share of AEG was through the Darman Group, which specializes in real estate and construction in the area of diversity management.
