Zenyatta easing into life at Lane’s End

ZENYATTA

ZENYATTA AT LANE'S END

Just as she did during her time on the track, Zenyatta is having no problem overcoming less-than-ideal conditions as she attempts to transition from runner to a more leisurely life.

Zenyatta spent her first few days in Kentucky sheltered from sub-freezing weather she did not experience in Southern California while soaking in her new surroundings at the Farish family's Lane’s End, where she is boarded by owners Jerry and Ann Moss.

Following her public appearance at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington on Monday, Zenyatta was vanned to her new home at the Versailles, Kentucky, farm, accompanied by trainer John Shirreffs and several other members of Team Zenyatta, said Sarah Campion, an associate of the Mosses and assistant to bloodstock agent David Ingordo.

Zenyatta's first few days at the farm mostly were spent in her stall, out of winter temperatures that at times dipped into the midteens with wind chills in the single digits. Several times, however, Zenyatta was allowed to graze in a small area just outside the barn and got a quick peek at her new environment.

“The weather just really is not very conducive to being outside right now,” Campion said. “Everyone has her best interests in mind, obviously. The first step was getting her here safely, and that was a success. Now, the goal is to make this transition as easy as possible.”

With temperatures rising into the mid-30s on Thursday, Zenyatta made her first trip out into a pasture with other mares and seemed to relish the experience, Campion said.

“She was hand walked out in a field where there were other mares and got to spend some time standing and looking around. She did a little prancing and a little posing. She is very curious and seems to be very happy as she continues to get used to her new surroundings.”

According to Campion, there have been no discussions or decisions on public visitation to see Zenyatta at Lane’s End, but fans can keep up to date with news about the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner at her website, www.zenyatta.com, or on her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ZenyattaOfficial.

“There’s obviously a lot of interest, and we are going to update the site and the Facebook page as often as we can,” Campion said. “There were some new videos posted to the Facebook page [on Thursday]. We want to make sure her fans know she is doing well.”

Nice article. It gave the readers enough info on Zenyatta's new life and new surroundings.
I do think that calling people stupid because they are reacting to the lip chain is not appropriate. Just explain the procedure and why they are using it. Most people saw her without it when Mario had her. That is what they remember and why they are commenting. No more no less.
Some are not as "horse" intelligent as you seem to be. Remember many are young fans and are learning this farm care as you did in your youth as well. We want to keep fans, not lose them. In the end, we all want what is best for this special girl.
As far as the picture, I would email the photographer and see what can be done. Miss Livingston captures these beautiful equine athletes in a special way.

Hey guy,

Just wanted to add a little post here for those of you who are not familiar with the setting at Lanes End. First of all that place is like a palace. That farm has barns that are probably bigger and more fancy than most of the houses you will ever see. So as far as her being unhappy its not goind to happen. Also, the people who work there around the clock are some of the best people in the world. Its not like they just take her to a pasture and let her stand out there to just rot. No, like all the horses she will get excellent care, and of course maybe she will be allowed to get away with some things, but hey she earned it. Also, for retirement, there is no other place to go than to a farm in KY. I am telling you, if you don't beleive me, take a trip to lexington and drive down Versailles Road , and you mouth will be on the ground when you drive past some of those farms and see what the living situation is there. These barns are like mansions, I mean really big mansions. So for anyone to ever consider that she will not be taken care of, or that she is in pain with the lip shank, then you are just ignrnt and stupid. They use it to protect here until she is able to adjust to the situation. Going from the racetrack to a pasture is a huge change in life for a horse, think of it as Jordan when he retired, it really took him a while to get use to it. I mean he came back like a billion times before he ever really called it quits. Anyway, she will be treated much better than you or I will ever be treated in our lifetime. That is of course unless you live in a mansion, have around the clock catering and an oncall doctor who will live at your house with you, just in case you have a sore throat, and you don't have to work anymore. Then maybe, you could possibly have some small idea of how the rest of her life will be. I didn't think so!

I bet Zenyatta is enjoying her new
home. She deserves to be spending her
days in Kentucky. Remember this is "The Blue-Grass State". Just think
of this all you "Z" fans. We can enjoy
the news of a foal, with a proud mama,by next year.
