Brimo listed in serious but stable condition

Jockey Julia Brimo was listed in serious but stable condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center’s trauma intensive care unit at about 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday.

Brimo was admitted to the hospital on Friday and was originally listed in critical condition following a spill in the first race on Friday at Keeneland Race Course. Brimo’s mount, maiden Golden Stride, clipped heels after bumping with Gihon near the three-eighths pole in the 1 1/8-mile maiden claiming race.

Brimo, winner of the 2003 Sovereign Award as Canada’s outstanding apprentice jockey, has been riding competitively since 2001. Golden Stride was her second mount at Keeneland.

Trainer Mark Casse, whose ex-wife Jennifer Christianson was at the hospital with Brimo, told Daily Racing Form that the jockey suffered head and neck injuries in the spill.
